2. Our recommitment to the Historic Christian Faith.
As TEC moved further from what most of us know as the historic Christian faith, pressure and tension was growing within the Church. Finally a point was reached were local congregations intent on remaining faithful to the historic faith could no longer, in good conscience, remain in the the national church.
To make a long story as short as possible, All Saint’s had to either cast its lot with the Episcopal Church or depart from it. Knowing the consequences, the congregation voted unanimously to leave TEC. We made this move along with approximately forty other former Episcopal Congregations in the Pittsburgh area, and approximately 700 nationally.
The consequences? Loss of our property.
3. So, what happened to “our” property?
The Episcopal Church claims ownership of all property used by Episcopal congregations. Once we left the national church we understood that TEC would likely claim the property, and they have done so. Whether this is fair or not is no longer of concern to us, and in any event the courts have generally upheld the Church’s claim to ownership. As of September 30th we will willingly vacate our historic address. If this is the cost of committing to and standing for the historic faith of Jesus Christ we do so with no regret.
Sadness? Yes. But no regret. It is our privilege to stand for the truth rather than a building.
And God has blessed us in our actions. We are so thankful to God and the congregation of Rosedale United Methodist Church that they have opened their doors to us. We will begin worshiping at RUMC at 9:00 a.m. on Sunday October 2nd. To our brothers and sisters of RUMC - THANK YOU!!
